Original publisher’s half-black morocco over buckram boards, front cover with gilt title within blindstamped frame, spine gilt, gilt edges (some overall light wear).

Jules Gérard (1817-1864), an officer in the Spahis regiment and Sporting hunter in North Africa, is the author of numerous books on hunting, the best known of which is Le Tueur de lions (Paris, Hachette, 1855).
Complete with 12 its plates, lithographed by François Grenier and René Demoraine and printed by Lemercier. One of the rare copies with the 12 lithographs coloured at the time, for which Thiébaud notes: ‘Existe avec les planches coloriées’. The Schwerdt copy was the regular, uncoloured issue, and is described as only consisting of “12 toned lithographs”.
