Comprehensive manual on the Kistna (or Krishna) district, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The district was formed in December 1859, under the orders of Sir Charles Trevelyan’s government in British India. This book explores the history of India before the British Empire, from the earliest times through to the Mohammedan, French and finally British periods. After a historical overview, Mackenzie gives details of each part of the district (he lists 11 parts or “Taluq”), before moving on to geology, meteorology and religions. The last large chapter is devoted exclusively to describing the fifteen major families (Navabs, Vasireddi, Malrazu, Manika, Manuri, Vellanki, and 9 branches of the Zemindars family).

This copy contains 4 facsimiles of a land donation contract (Grant of Pallava) in a pocket, not a map.
