Jean Pierre Girardin (1803-1884) was a professor of industrial chemistry in Rouen. He succeeded Louis Pasteur in Lille, where he became professor and dean of the Faculty of Science from 1857 to 1862. These classes were given on Sundays to Rouen workers, and the book is dedicated to them. The section on chemical dyeing is of particular interest.
The volume is illustrated with 17 samples of dyed fabrics pasted into the text. There is also a chapter on cider making.
Worn binding.
