Reissue of the original 1858 edition with a renewed title without date, completed by three added supplements, not included before.
A very important work in the history of photography, summarizing the different techniques starting from the beginnings by Nicéphore Nièpce (1765-1833) up to 1858.
The author gives precise information on the production and development of daguerreotypes, followed by details on prints on paper (talbotypes) and the processes applied by the photographers Baldus and Gustave Le Gray. The following chapters are devoted to positive paper, Niceotype or glass photography, collodion, and the other processes mentioned on the title page.
The main book is followed by 3 supplements written by Casimir Lefebvre, notably: – Photography on Fabrics. 2 nn.ll. – Supplement for 1861. Multiplier-Mulnier. 2 nn.ll. – Supplement for 1862. Charcoal photography [and] Porcelain photography. 2 nn.ll.
The book is notoriously rare and difficult to find in good condition. A very good copy, despite scattered foxing.
