Uncommon edition of the Comedies of Terence, who along with Plautus was a great master of the genre in Ancient Rome. Pages 229-230 and 236-237 are nicked, cardboards replace them after page 257.
Binding stained on part of the spine and lower board.
Provenance: Robert Arnauld d’Andilly (1589-1674), intendant general of the house of Gaston d’Orléans, arms on the boards. Arnauld de Torcy, handwritten bookplate on the title page, great uncle of Catherine-Félicité Arnauld (1670-1757), daughter of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simon Arnauld de Pomponne (1618-1699) and Catherine Ladvocat (1636-1711). She married Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marquis de Torcy on 2 August 1696 (Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Journal inédit, Paris, Société d’éditions littéraires et artistiques, 1903).
