Magnificent copy bound by Lortic and granderized with 79 additional plates

Vicaire, V, 929 & 930.

Magnificent deluxe edition of a limited edition of 400 copies, this one number 41 of 300 printed on tinted Annonay laid paper. It was printed by Louis Perrin for the publisher Scheuring in Lyon. It is decorated with a fine portrait of Molière by Hillemacher (bound at the head of volume II), as well as numerous vignettes and cul-de-lampe etchings by Frédéric Hillemacher.

Copy complete with notices to the bookbinder for volumes I (and the cancels for pages 101/102, 129/130, 143/144), II (and the cancels for pages 3-425, 133-134, 139-140, 307-308, 317-318), III (and the cancel for quire 10 corresponding to pages 145-160).

The Cérémonie du malade imaginaire (bound at the end of volume VII) was published in a limited edition of 300 copies; this is number 22 of 50 copies on large tinted paper. The print-run of the Galerie historique volume is not announced.

A very fine copy, perfectly bound by Lortic, to which have been added 79 engraved figures after Desenne, Coypel, Vernet, Johannot, and Moreau le jeune (by the latter all the engravings are before the letter), including a facsimile of an autograph receipt from Molière in volume I.

Small scratch on the first cover of the Galerie historique; occasional foxing.
