Partly first edition. The complete works containg Charcot’s classic texts on diseases of the nervous system, on the diseases of the brain, and on the diseases of the liver.

“In France, Charcot was one of the greatest neurologists of his time. It was perhaps his incomparable qualities as a teacher, writer, and organizer that contributed most to the reputation of this gifted clinician… He was the creator of the greatest modern neurological clinic, and a masterly describer of many disease pictures… Charcot brought to his clinic at la Salpêtrière a group of devoted pupils who were among the founders of modern neurology. Charcot was an outstanding teacher, and this course of lectures at the Salpêtrière constitutes one of the textbooks in the field of neurology and is his greatest work.

Of the many works issued by Charcot, this one on the localization of functions in diseases of the brains tands out as one of the most important.

Though best remembered as a clinical neurologist, Charcot also contributed to a more accurate knowledge of many other diseases. This classic work on the diseases of the liver, biliary passages, and kidney is a fine example of his versatility” (Heirs).
